At a preliminary hearing on Friday, a Jackson police detective testified that investigators believe Tasia Fortune was killed somewhere else and the scene was staged. That’s one side’s account, and it hasn’t been tested at trial. We walk through what it tells us and what it doesn’t. Then we look under the Olney house headlines in Philadelphia, lay out what’s settled and what’s still open in the death of Nolan Wells, and revisit a 1982 Idaho case that finally has a name.

No one has been charged in connection with any of these women’s disappearances or deaths. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. We don’t report a number of women believed dead, because outlets have reported different counts. At a family’s request, we don’t repeat details police released. Nolan Wells: what’s settled, and what’s still open

A grand jury found no evidence of a crime. No one has been charged, and no one should be accused. We don’t name the private individuals who were with Nolan that day.

Dr. Mathew Betkouski was never charged with any crime and has not been named a suspect by any agency. No agency has cleared him either. The FBI says claimed links to the Tylenol murders remain unsubstantiated. The Tylenol murders remain unsolved.

James Broadnax was convicted of capital murder. The innocence claims are those of Broadnax, Demarius Cummings, his lawyers and his wife. The conviction stood, and the victims’ families maintain it was right.
