On New Year's Eve 2022, Darryl Getman, 83, and Sharon Getman, 80, were killed in their home at Waterman Village, a retirement community in Mount Dora, Florida. Two days later, police found their car, and Vickie Williams, in Savannah, Georgia. On Sept. 22, 2026, a Lake County jury convicted Williams of two counts of first-degree murder and grand theft. Prosecutors sought the death penalty; on Sept. 25 the jury recommended life, and the judge imposed two consecutive life terms without parole. Here's what the record shows.

What we don't know / what's disputed

• Why the Getmans: police found no prior connection. The defense's explanation was her mental illness; the jury rejected the insanity defense.
• The jury's vote on the recommendation was not reported.
• Early reports differ on smaller details (the exact time window, which South Carolina city the readers logged, and whom she approached inside the community). We leave those out.

What happens next

Williams has the right to appeal her conviction and sentence. We'll update this if an appeal is filed.
