Jonathan McKinsey, 40, of Dublin, California, an engineering leader at New York Times Games, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Dublin Sports Grounds on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, 2026. Within minutes, police detained his wife's parents, a married couple in their seventies, nearby. They were booked on suspicion of murder. As of Sept. 29 no formal charges had been filed. They have not been convicted and are presumed innocent. Here's what the record shows.

- What the family court would have decided. We don't report the contents of either side's filings: they are unproven claims no court ruled on, and they centre on private family matters.
- Some early reports differ on small details (the time, his exact job title, the couple's ages). Where they conflict we use the police release or leave the detail out.
What happens next
The couple's arraignment is set for Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the courthouse in Dublin. We'll update this after it happens.
