A Durham man is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense. He has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. We are not naming him while no jury has been seated. What we don't know

  • When opening statements begin. They follow the seating of 12 jurors and alternates; the court has not set a date.
  • The verdict. The trial is expected to last about four weeks once it starts. (ABC11; WRAL)

What happens next

  • Jury selection continues in Durham. We'll post an UPDATE here when a jury is seated and opening statements are made, and again at the verdict.

Please note

The man charged has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. No one else has been charged in Faith Hedgepeth's death. The name on the Town's 2021 release is covered by us.
